Sinfonia Sacra, Symphony No.3

November’s concert is a very spiritual event. Sir James MacMillan’s Larghetto for orchestra is an orchestral version of his a cappella Miserere, a work which opens the listener to a world of solemnity, forgiveness, and optimism. Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto in C minor needs no introduction and will be performed by our dear friend and Steinway Artist Yuki Negishi. Two deeply spiritual works follow. Jerimiah is based on the book of the Old Testament and is a work I had the honour of conducting the world première with of the Chineke! Junior Orchestra in August 2023. Sinfonia Sacra by Andrzej Panufnik is a personal favourite and is based on the first known hymn in the Polish language, the Bogurodzica.

Join us for a truly uplifting start to our season.
