We are deeply proud and honoured to celebrate Lady Ayckbourn’s 21 years of patronage of the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra. It is her great love for the music of Fauré that formed the basis of this programme choice.
We begin with Lili Boulanger’s rapturous orchestral work, D’un Matin du Printemps, followed by Gabriel Fauré’s sublime Pavane. We continue with John Foulds’s orchestral showpiece, the evocative April - in England.
We are delighted to welcome back Holly Clark to play Henri Tomasi’s legendary and highly virtuosic Trumpet Concerto. Musical styles range from film score to impressionism, hints of Aaron Copland to jazz.
We close our concert with two orchestral and audience favourites - Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande suite and Ravel’s Boléro. These works are the epitome of sumptuous French music and will leave us all wanting more!
